History of Politecnico di Torino

The Polytechnic University of Turin has a long and rich history that dates back to the mid-19th century and founding of the Technical School for Engineers (Scuola di Applicazione per gli Ingegneri).

In 1862 the school was transformed into the Royal Technical School of Turin (Regio Scuola Tecnica di Torino) by King Victor Emmanuel II.

In 1958 the Polytechnic University of Milan was established, which led to the separation of the engineering and architecture faculties from the Polytechnic University of Turin. In 1976 the Faculty of Architecture was established at the university, which marked the beginning of the institution’s expansion into new fields of study.

Politecnico di Torino became a public institution in 1992, with the Italian government taking over the responsibility for funding and governance.

In 2005, the university established the International Campus in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, which promotes international collaboration and exchange. In 2013 the university opened the Green Energy Park, which is a research and innovation centre focused on renewable energy and sustainable development.
